1st ANNUAL EXHIBITION 'SUBSTANCE-UNSUBSTANCE'

30.11.–19.12.1993
Curator Ando Keskküla

The exhibition presented a cross-section of the latest Estonian art, considering it on the axis “Substance–Unsubstance” through the relationship of the artist to material, substance and reality. The coordinate points selected for working out the map were the relationships between empirical and ideal space, the relationships between physical and virtual reality, the state of being present and of nonexistence; the relationships between empirical and sociocultural space. The exhibition took place in the Tallinn Art Hall, the Tallinn Art Hall Gallery, the Luum Gallery, the Sammas Gallery and in Hirvepark. 32 artists participated: Jan J. Graps, Pier Li, Albert Kulk, Jaan Jaanisoo, Anu Kalm, Toomas Kalve, Jüri Kask, Raivo Kelomees, Rainer Kurm, Jaak Saks, Leonhard Lapin, Ly Lestberg, Tairo Pärnamets, Eve Linnap, Peeter Linnap, Raul Meel, Urmas Muru, Jüri Ojaver, Kaido Ole, Peeter Pere, Rait Prääts, Toivo Raidmets, Sven Senka, Ahti Seppet, Tea Tammelaan, Andres Tolts, Jaan Toomik, Mart Viljus, Aili Vint, Martin Vällik. The prize jury (Barbara Barsch, Laszló Beke, Krista Kodres, Enn Põldroos, Tom Sandqvist) awarded prizes to Jüri Ojaver (“Niche. Image”) and Mart Viljus (“Imagines mortis”).
